There are 249 armorial bearings on the castle wall and 16 in the garden. By the time the color of those armorial bearing has disappeared and there are any knowledge about what they were indicated.
     There are too many kinds of plants and trees in the garden of the castle as laurel, chinar, olive, oleander and myrtle (scrub.).The shadow of thechinar tree is assumed to be very popular for who comes from the leader families. Mentese dynasty is the owner of the castle these days. Castle was used to control the area with the Nagrasia Castle.
     During sovereignty of the knights the castle sheltered, 50 knights and 150 soldiers. Castle commanders changed once in two years.
     In 1480 Turkish Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror, could not take the castle because of its forced navy force , but after the conquest of Rodos island in January 5th 1923 , Turks did not use the castle for defense, it became a jail in 1895. 

Bodrum Castle History  The castle is especially important by its stones for structure.
In the construction of the castle, the Maussoleion stones which came from one of Seven Wonders of the World, and became a ruin after an earthquake Maussoleion.
During the 1st world war, it had been bombed by French Ship Dubleix in 26 May 1915, by English ships Bacchante and Kerrey in 28 may. After that situation, the prisoners had been moved to land. Castle had begun to use as commanders place by Italian in 11 June 1915.
     In the Second World War Turkish used the castle as the commander's place until the war end. After that, in 1960 George F. Bens take Antalya, Finilce, Gelidonya submerged pieces to castle to be used as stock. In 1962 Haluk Elbe was send to Bodrum to change the castle as a museum. In 6th November Bodrum Castle Museum started to be visited. In the castle, three roomed building which has been built by Ottoman as sickbay, started to be used as museum of underwater pieces. Now the museum is the very few places about the underwater museum in the world and one in Turkiye. 

 Arrival From Istanbul airport to Bodrum-Milas airport is 45 minute long and it is only 30 minutes far from the center of the town.

Akyarlar Continuing on past Karaincir the visitor passes the towering seaside mount of Aspat, with its Ottoman fortress on the summit and the ruins of an old Greek Chapel on its slopes to the old fishing village of Akyarlar. At one time Akyarlar was a popular Greek summer resort as several of the old houses that line the shore attest. Until recently the main occupation of Akyarlar was fishing and the small harbor would fill with the local fleet.
